DC Based Restin to Launch Pilot Program with WeWork

This week it was announced that WeWork has agreed to partner with DC based rental company Restin on a pilot program in the Washington, DC market offering their members upgraded furniture starting at an additional monthly fee of $159. The choices include a proprietary Restin Adjustable Height Desk and the Steelcase Gesture Chair. While furniture comes standard with desk and private office memberships, there have been up until now, no options in choice for the type of desk and chair a member could receive.

WeWork has always offered to store their furniture for members who have a private office and would like to use their own. Up until now it was the member who had to source their desired furniture, coordinate delivery and pay for installation, which Restin Co-Founder Frank Taylor experienced first hand as a member of WeWork Wonder Bread Factory. This is exactly the process that Restin seeks to streamline: offering seamless monthly billing, month to month agreements, shipping, installation, repair and removal services. Taylor approached WeWork with his concept and has received approval and support from their team, allowing him to launch the pilot to test the model.

Requests for standing desks have seen a steady increase in coworking and corporate environments alike, where individuals have often taken to the internet to hack inexpensive furniture from Ikea to retrofit their existing desks, rather than pay for a new desk themselves. The rise in awareness can be credited to headlines in recent years, often proclaiming that “Sitting is the New Smoking” based on research produced by Dr. James Levine, director of the Mayo Clinic-ASU Obesity Solutions Initiative and inventor of the treadmill desk.

Retail costs for an equivalent adjustable desk range from $600-$700 and the Gesture Chair by Steelcase can be found online for $974. WeWork members can visit wework.restin.co for more information and to sign up to join the pilot program. Those who participate in the program will receive a $50 discount off the regular monthly price of $210 a month.
